The Foulons building is a typical Brusselian housing bloc with a 5-m wide façade and a double orientation: A street façade and a garden façade.  Built in the beginning of the XXth century, the building underwent several modifications and extensions, transforming the simple original typology into a complex structure.

The goal of the project was to bring back the building to a simple and hygienic state by rationalising the technical elements into one longitudinal technical strip while giving  typological qualities to the apartments.

The first proposal is to take full advantage of the double orientation of the building by creating a single living space from the street to the garden windows. In addition, a buffer zone of storage separates the main living space in two: A common area and an intimate area, providing a bedroom in a small size studio. Finally, the bathroom receives natural light thanks to a mashrabiya window overlooking the living room in order to create an urban feeling of public space.
